Snap Dragon Dairy Welcomes You!

KarenBaby.jpgIntroducing Snap Dragon Dairy

Welcome from Jaki Ayton and Karen Fouracre! We are the proud owners and operators of the Snap Dragon Dairy. We've been developing our compact 1.6 acre farm since 1997, and we'd like to share it with you!

Originally living as city dwellers, our love for the country life eventually brought us to Fanny Bay, British Columbia, in the heart of Canada's purest country. We love what we're doing, and to us, it's heaven on Earth!

Great Starts

As joint owners of the Gnome Wood Dairy Goat herd, and members of the Vancouver Island Goat Association (VIGA), we're proud to be one of the primary local milk producers for the Salt Spring Island Cheese Company.

The idea to establish a micro dairy came when David Wood, owner of the Salt Spring Island Cheese Company, approached the Vancouver Island Goat Association (VIGA) in the fall of 2009 looking for milk from Vancouver Island producers. He was buying goat's milk in the Fraser Valley area and wanted to find sources closer to home. We immediately began to investigate whether or not we could start a dairy.

Now, Snap Dragon Dairy milks over half of our 33 goat herd, producing approximately 300+ litres of milk per week. When you consider that most of the commercial goat dairies in BC have herds of 200-500 animals, producing that amount each day, the figures become impressive.

A Big Farm in A Little Package

  • We also raise hogs for the meat
  • We raise our own chickens for eggs
  • We grow a variety of vegetables
  • We have fresh fruit with our trees
  • We tend multiple flower gardens
  • We maintain a clean and safe farm
  • We practice many of the "country arts"

JakiKaren350.jpgOriginally from Victoria Province and best friends since high school, we are now business partners and co-owners of the Snap Dragon Dairy Farm.

We've worked hard to learn what it takes to manage a farm, and we've never regretted the decision to take on this life.

So, welcome to Snap Dragon Dairy online - we hope you find your visit educational. Contact us and let us know how we're doing!
